CAAHSN Fund to support Aboriginal people working in research

We’re seeking applications from Aboriginal researchers, students, and community researchers to begin or advance their training in health research. This Fund aims to; support professional development; enable recognised qualifications; and strengthen Aboriginal leadership in research.

About The Network

The Central Australia Academic Health Science Network (CAAHSN) supports and connects Aboriginal people working in health and health-related research across Central Australia. 

Through the Aboriginal Researchers Network (ARN), CAAHSN provides a forum to share knowledge and experience, strengthens professional and leadership development, and supports culturally appropriate, community-driven research that leads to better health outcomes

Lowitja Learning Summit · Workshop

OPPRTUNITY: Introduction to Indigenous Research in Community Contexts

As part of the Lowitja Learning Summit, this one-and-a-half day in-person workshop will bring together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-based researchers, educators, health workers and knowledge holders to reflect, deepen and strengthen practice in community-led and community-controlled Indigenous research.

FACILITATOR

Distinguished Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith – Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Porou, Tūhourangi

Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith is a Distinguished Professor at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi (Aotearoa New Zealand) and is internationally recognised for her leadership in Indigenous education, kaupapa Māori research, and her seminal work Decolonising Methodologies.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This in-person workshop is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, including educators, health workers and knowledge holders who are interested in:

– undertaking their own research
– working alongside research teams
– strengthening their understanding of how research operates in community contexts

The workshop centres Indigenous knowledges and research practices led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, for community purposes.

HOW TO REGISTER

Invited nominees should register directly via Humanitix by 25 February 2026 (see below) to confirm their attendance. Workshop participants are also warmly invited to attend an evening gathering with Lowitja Institute members on Wednesday 11 March — details will be emailed to registered participants.

No funding support is available for this workshop
